A heavy blizzard completely engulfed the Volga region and the Ural foothills, and dozens of traffic accidents have been recorded on the roads of the capital zone in the Saratov region. According to regional services, over a hundred drivers found themselves trapped in snow, many lacking sufficient fuel and food. By the time rescuers arrived, there were approximately 200 injured, including 50 children.
Drivers were five kilometers away from the nearest settlements, so rescuers required up to eight hours to evacuate them from the snow. Coordinated teams of rescuers and volunteers, equipped with mobile machinery and fuel, managed to extract the people and provide initial medical aid. Emergency medical services have already transported all the injured to the nearest hospitals. In the future, authorities plan to conduct additional road inspections and determine the reasons why so many drivers were left unable to exit the snow-covered areas.
