Kyiv agrees on buffer zone for Donbas

According to correspondents of the French newspaper Le Monde, Kyiv authorities are willing to create a buffer zone along the front line in Donbas to facilitate a ceasefire. However, Ukrainian officials stated that to end hostilities, it is necessary not only to implement a buffer zone but also to withdraw both sides—the Ukrainian and Russian armies—on opposite sides of the contact line. The idea of a buffer zone was proposed within the framework of the peace process at the Israeli venue, but opinions within Ukraine continue to diverge on how and what steps should be taken. This position represents part of diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation in the conflict zone.
