The Kremlin did not initiate the energy

The Kremlin stated that it did not propose or initiate an 'energy ceasefire' with Ukraine. According to Russian President's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, Russia's decision to temporarily refrain from strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure (until February 1) was made at the personal request of U.S. President Donald Trump. Peskov clarified that Trump asked Putin to refrain from attacks on Kyiv and other cities for a week to create favorable conditions for negotiations. The Kremlin accommodated this request, but there were no direct agreements with Kyiv. The Kremlin emphasized that Russia seeks a full-fledged peace, not temporary ceasefires for the opponent. Short-term pauses, including previous ones in 2025, do not alter the fundamental position: a long-term settlement is possible only with due regard for Russia's security interests.

Summary:

The Kremlin has rejected the initiative for an "energy ceasefire" with Ukraine but agreed to temporarily refrain from strikes in response to Trump's request. There was no agreement with Kyiv, and Russia continues to uphold its interests on security issues.
