Serbia: Ukraine may join EU by 2027
President Vucic expressed his opinion on future membership
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in an interview that, in his opinion, Ukraine will be able to join the European Union on January 1, 2027. The accession process is expected to be adjusted to take into account objections from several countries—Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia—who, according to Vucic, will not agree with this step. The countries in question stated that due to specific political and economic conditions, the application would require additional guarantees.
Context
Ukraine has been holding talks on EU membership since 2022, after EU countries expressed willingness to consider its candidacy.
Serbia noted that Ukraine could join the EU in 2027, but rejected the request from relatives of Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia.
