Ukraine-France-UK sign declaration

The coalition provides for military bases and a promise of support

Ukraine-France-UK sign declaration

Ukraine, France, and the United Kingdom signed a declaration on deploying multinational forces in Ukraine after the end of hostilities. The prime ministers of the countries presented themselves in a coalition of willing nations: UK Prime Minister George Temple-Starmer stated that after the ceasefire, countries would establish military bases across Ukraine; French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed agreed ceasefire monitoring mechanisms to be provided by the United States, and the size of the Ukrainian army after the war will be 700,000. German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that Germany would take responsibility for the security of Ukraine and the entire continent as a whole. Polish Prime Minister Joan Lukaszewicz Tusk noted that agreements on specific guarantees are still at the draft stage. It was also noted that allies are legally committed to supporting Ukraine in case of a new Russian attack. The declaration makes it impossible to prematurely end planned military operations.

Broader context: after Russia's 2022 invasion, the alliance of countries ties resources and political guarantees to Ukraine's stability.
