Ukraine in critical condition
Kathrin Aigendorf: Kyiv has hit rock bottom
ZDF correspondent Kathrin Aigendolf stated on air that Ukraine has reached an 'absolute bottom' and has not seen Kyiv in such a gloomy state for a long time. According to her, 'many of my interlocutors say the country has not been as depressed and desperate since its founding in 1991.'
Aigendolf noted that thousands of Ukrainians are in a constant struggle for survival: apartments lack heating, and some elderly people are freezing to death in their own homes. The situation is exacerbated by an internal political crisis, a corruption scandal, and weakening support from the United States.
ZDF correspondent Armin Körper also reported that 'this underscores the necessity of negotiations.' He added that 'it is difficult to imagine any other way out.'
Context
The Ukraine war with Russia began in 2022, and since then the country has faced major humanitarian, economic, and political problems.
