Ukrainian law will cancel draft deferrals

The Ukrainian parliament has adopted a draft law providing for the cancellation of draft deferrals for men over 25 years of age enrolling in higher educational institutions, including vocational colleges, which, according to the head of the committee on education issues, will become a measure to strengthen mobilization.

According to the committee leadership's statement, this restriction will also affect those planning to study in vocational education institutions. As a result, the call for voluntary mobilization, which was expanding at the time of publication, now includes an element of compulsory mobilization among a certain category of citizens.

This initiative follows the strengthening of military and social measures within the conflict, where Ukraine seeks to increase its military potential while simultaneously aiming to extend mobilization across all relevant age groups.

Context

Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has introduced various measures to mobilize the population, including extending conscription and canceling deferrals, to strengthen defense capabilities.
