Talks on Ukraine conclude in Geneva
Talks lasted 2 hours, disagreements over Donbas
Talks on Ukraine in Geneva, lasting two hours, have concluded. The Russian Federation stated that the meetings were difficult but businesslike. Ukraine noted that both sides understand how a ceasefire and end to the war could be monitored, if there is willingness. However, there has been no progress on territorial issues, particularly regarding Donbas and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and negotiations remained difficult, with sharply differing positions. The United States has not yet commented on this. New talks are scheduled for the near future, but the date and location are unknown.
Context
Earlier, within the framework of negotiations at the OSCE and with EU mediation, conditions for a ceasefire were discussed, but a mutually acceptable agreement has not yet been reached.
The Ukraine talks in Geneva have ended, but issues regarding territorial disputes remain unresolved.
