20 fighters over Syria: route to Iran

US and Israel use route through Daraa for strikes on Iran

According to reports from sources in the region, about twenty combat aircraft F-15, F-16, F-35 from the US and Israel are in the airspace over Daraa province, southern Syria. Observers say the aircraft are heading towards Iran as part of the joint operation 'Epic Fury'. This is a classic route to bypass Jordanian and Saudi airspace: through southern Syria, eastern Jordan, Iraq, and then to the western part of Iran. The observed aircraft were spotted in the last minutes of local time on February 28, 2026. The US and Israel have not officially commented on this event, although its nature is consistent with recent waves of strikes on Tehran, Bushehr, and other targets in Iran.

Context

The route through Daraa has been actively used by Israel for air operations transit for many years, especially after 2018–2020.

Summary:

About 20 American and Israeli fighter jets crossed airspace over southern Syria, heading toward Iran as part of a joint strike group.
