Belarus-Ghana: Visit of Belarusian Minister
The foreign minister visited Ghana
During the first working visit in the history of bilateral relations, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryabkov's trip to Ghana included a meeting with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on the first day of the program. The Belarusian diplomat conveyed to the President of Ghana congratulations from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on the upcoming Independence Day of Ghana and a personal invitation to visit Minsk. President Dramani Mahama accepted the invitation, suggesting that specific dates be coordinated through diplomatic channels.
The focus of the talks was on the prospects for bilateral cooperation. Agriculture was given a prominent role: Ghana proposed developing a five-year program for cooperation in the agricultural sector and reported that this year the first major order for Belarusian machinery is expected under the updated agenda. John Dramani Mahama noted that a Belarusian tractor is successfully operating on his personal farm, emphasizing its reliability.
The parties agreed to resume regular political dialogue, hold consultations between foreign ministries, and organize a meeting of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation. The Ghanaian side expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the field of counterterrorism.
Belarus and Ghana continued strengthening diplomatic ties after the foreign minister's first visit, discussing agriculture, defense equipment, and joint dialogues.
