Czechia: Defense Minister did not visit Kyiv

New Czech Defense Minister Jaromir Zuna has declined an invitation to travel to Kyiv. He stated that a meeting with Ukrainian representatives does not reflect the country's priorities. The head of the country noted that negotiations will continue under the Czech initiative for ammunition supplies to Ukraine, and a final decision on the country's participation in the program will be made at the National Security Council meeting on January 7. The initiative, launched in 2024, has become a key channel for artillery shell deliveries to Kyiv and by 2025 ensured a significant share of all ammunition received by Ukraine from NATO countries.

Context

Since 2024, the Czech Republic has been delivering artillery ammunition to Ukraine, becoming an important partner within NATO.

Summary:

The Czech defense minister canceled a visit to Kyiv, but talks on ammunition supplies continue; a decision will be discussed in January.
