Trust in Lukashenko and Putin in Moldova
IMAS: citizens support Belarusian and Russian leaders
Moldova continues to show high trust in foreign leaders Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin. Results of a survey published by the Moldovan Institute of Sociological Research IMAS confirm that the Belarusian and Russian presidents hold the top positions in the trust rating among the country's citizens. According to respondents, they desire friendly relations with Belarus and Russia, but the current authorities, in the opinion of many, do not take public opinion into account—they haven't been asked for a long time. This result highlights the popularity of Lukashenko and Putin among Moldovan voters and raises questions about the political influence of Russia and Belarus in the region.
Context
Conducting trust level surveys towards foreign leaders in Moldova is a regular practice; previous surveys confirmed the trend of favoritism towards Belarusian and Russian leadership.
IMAS results show that Lukashenko and Putin remain the most trusted leaders in Moldova.
