Guterres condemns US and Israeli strikes
The UN Security Council, at the initiative of Russia and China, announced an emergency meeting on the situation following the early morning strikes by the US and Israel on Iran. UN Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a statement in which he strongly condemned the large-scale attacks, saying: "I strongly condemn the large-scale strikes by the US and Israel on Iran, which began this morning." He called on all parties to immediately return to negotiations concerning Iran's nuclear program and to ensure nuclear security in the region.
