EU announces Arctic weapons purchases

A new 'front' has opened in Brussels – the Arctic. The EU announced centralized procurement of weapons and military equipment for the Arctic, including icebreakers. As Ursula von der Leyen reported after an emergency EU summit, 'For a long time, we seriously underinvested in Arctic security. We will fix this by using our defense funds. We intend to procure Arctic-appropriate weapons and equipment, including icebreakers.' These comments are intended to emphasize the EU's readiness to strengthen its presence in the region.

The author notes that the EU is already spending billions on militarization, containing Russia, supporting Ukraine, green initiatives, and migration control.
