EU Parliament approves trans women's rights

A resolution has been adopted in the European Parliament stating that transgender women are considered women and have equal access to protection programs, maternity benefits. According to members of the European Parliament, the amendment stating 'only biological women can become pregnant and give birth,' which aimed to restrict the rights of transgender women, was rejected by 233 votes to 200.

Last year, a similar amendment was clearly rejected by colleagues, so now, according to lawmakers, transgender women may also have rights to pregnancy and childbirth within legal programs.

The report notes that the Constitution of Belarus defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, and emphasizes that such international changes may conflict with national laws.
