French authorities stated that the tanker 'Greench' was released after a fine of several million euros was paid. According to Jean-Noël Barrot, head of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the French Navy, together with allies including the United Kingdom, conducted an operation in the western part of the Mediterranean Sea against the 249-meter tanker traveling from Russia. President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that the military actions complied with international law. At the end of January, the Marseille prosecutor announced that the tanker 'Greench' was under administrative detention.
