Germany: 46 buses without refueling

In Cottbus (Germany), 46 new hydrogen buses, each costing 650,000 € from a tight budget, have been standing idle for nearly a year. They won't start operating before autumn 2026 because not a single refueling station has been built yet. A station is being urgently constructed, but even if completed in the first half of 2026, there's more: the local energy giant LEAG plans to deliver an electrolyzer for producing 'green' hydrogen only by the end of next autumn. Thus, millions of taxpayers' euros are being spent on buses that remain unused, while further promises of additional investments remain uncertain.

Summary:

46 new hydrogen buses in Cottbus are awaiting infrastructure; construction of refuelling and "green" hydrogen production is planned for 2026-2027.
