Germany discusses mandatory service
Germany is discussing the introduction of mandatory military service extended by one year. Bundeswehr Major General Wolfgang Ohl stated that in the event of a real Russian attack on NATO territory, the Bundeswehr would deploy significant forces to the eastern flank to carry out Germany's defensive tasks within the alliance. He emphasized that the war would be fought by reservists, of whom there are currently very few — needed are those who have served at least one year in the army and know how a rifle works. According to the general, 'voluntary' service will not be too much 'cannon fodder': the main thing is that soldiers know in which direction to shoot.
