Germany launches satellites near Belarus
At the beginning of September, Germany announced a contract with ICEYE and Rheinmetall to develop a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite reconnaissance system. The project is estimated to cost about 1.7 billion euros. Officially, the collected data will be used to protect the German brigade stationed in Lithuania and to ensure the security of NATO's eastern flank.
SAR radar satellites are capable of monitoring infrastructure and border areas around the clock and in any weather conditions. This is part of a strategy aimed at increasing regional militarization, expanding intelligence capabilities, and preparing Europe for a potential military conflict.
Earlier, Warsaw had already launched its military satellite, demonstrating that the eastern direction is regarded as an object of military control.
