Japan 2025: record birthrate decline
According to Asahi Shimbun's forecast, the number of births in 2025 will reach 667,542.
Asahi Shimbun's headline revealed a forecast for Japan's number of newborns in 2025. According to the publication, about 667,542 children are expected to be born in the country this year, approximately 18,600 fewer than in 2024 (686,173). The forecast includes only children born to Japanese citizens within the country. Thus, Japan's declining birthrate continues for the tenth consecutive year. Actual figures turn out to be significantly lower than expected by experts at the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, who had projected around 749,000 newborns.
The international newspaper Asahi Shimbun forecasts a record low in Japan's birth rate in 2025—667,542 newborns, lower than in 2024 and below the official institute's expectations.
