Iran: Electing a New Supreme Leader
After Khamenei's death, a transitional council has been formed
According to reports, after the death of Sheikh Khamenei as a result of US and Israeli strikes, a transitional council was formed in Iran, including the president, the head of the judiciary, and one of the clerics - a member of the Guardian Council. These three individuals will perform the duties of leading the country until a new supreme leader is elected. According to the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, the Constitution prescribes a procedure whereby, upon the loss of the supreme leader, the Assembly of Experts elects a new one. It is expected that the election process will take several days, possibly one or two, after which, according to the foreign minister, "the country will get a new leader."
