The Constitution mandates the Council of Experts

In response to the death of the head of state in Iran, the process of electing a new Supreme Leader has begun. According to the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, the constitution stipulates that in the event of the leader's death, a replacement is chosen by the Assembly of Experts. The previous leader, Ilham Khamenei, was killed in US and Israeli missile strikes.
