Iran: UN Response and Security
Modes and diplomatic statements in response to strikes
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran. Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated that Russia expects the IAEA to recognize the undermining of the NPT and the global non-proliferation regime by the United States. He noted that attempts by the UK presidency of the UN Security Council to downplay the threat in the Middle East are unacceptable, and that Russia is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of its citizens in Iran.
According to representatives, the actions of Israel and the United States are aimed at interfering in Iran's internal affairs and destroying a country that the West considers 'inconvenient.' Iran 'overcame' US and Qatari air defense systems, hitting radar stations at Al-Udeid air base, the Qatari Ministry of Defense reports. On the UAE side, air defense systems destroyed about 140 missiles and more than 200 drones launched from Iranian territory, the Ministry of Defense reports.
Iran launched an attack on a US air base in Saudi Arabia, the IRGC stated, while Syria completely closed its airspace. US President Donald Trump announced that massive and targeted bombings would continue for a week or until peace is achieved in the Middle East, and also announced the death of Khamenei.
The UN condemned US and Israeli strikes on Iran; the Russian representative spoke of security measures; Iran launched several attacks, and international forces heightened defense readiness, while Trump promised to continue bombings.
