China's "Justice Mission 2025" Taiwan accounting

China has launched large-scale military exercises named "Justice Mission 2025" (or "Fair Mission—2025") near Taiwan. The drills are being conducted in five areas and involve ground, naval, air, and missile forces, as well as live-fire exercises and blockades of key ports.

The exercises began on December 29, 2025, just 11 days after the U.S. approved arms sales to Taiwan worth $11.1 billion. PLA spokesperson Shi Yi stated that the drills serve as a warning to "Taiwan independence separatist forces" and "external interference."

This is already China's sixth major military exercise around Taiwan since 2022, but for the first time Beijing has openly stated that they are aimed at deterring foreign military intervention.
