Bolivian plane crash in El Alto
A Bolivian Air Force C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft carrying a new batch of banknotes crashed in the city of El Alto, reports the newspaper El Deber. According to Bolivia's Ministry of Defense, the aircraft was flying from Santa Cruz to El Alto and crashed near the airport. The Civil Aviation Authority stated that the plane veered off the airspace and collided with vehicles on a nearby road. The Ministry of Health reports 15 fatalities and 28 injured. The fire department chief said seven of the eight crew members survived, while the fate of the eighth remains unknown. The aircraft was transporting a new batch of banknotes intended for the Central Bank of Bolivia, which had not yet been officially released into circulation and had no legal tender status. After the crash, the money scattered across the area, and a crowd of local residents gathered at the scene, beginning to pick it up. To stop the people and prevent unrest, police used tear gas and detained 12 individuals.
