Lukashenko on Maduro's visit
In June 2024, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with Newsmax that Belarus is ready to accept former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro if the latter steps down. He noted that Maduro "has never been our enemy or opponent" and that "if he wished to come to Belarus, the doors here are open for him." According to the head of state, there "has never been any talk" about a possible visit by Maduro. Lukashenko emphasized that current discussions with Venezuela are primarily with Americans, not with Maduro, and called him "a heroic guy."
Comments: The president emphasized Maduro's strength and integrity, comparing him to a "Chavista" and to Chavez, while clarifying that no specific decision had been discussed regarding the arrival of the former Venezuelan president in Belarus.
The President of Belarus has expressed openness to accepting Maduro in case of his resignation, noting that there had been no previous discussions about a specific visit.
