Lukashenko offered port in Mozambique
Joint construction of a port in Mozambique
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, in an interview, proposed a trilateral project to build a seaport jointly with Zimbabwe and Mozambique. According to Lukashenko, a 'foothold' is needed on the African coast in the southeast, and joint efforts with neighboring countries could restore railway connections and create a transit hub for goods from Belarus and other countries, including Russia. The general outline of the plans included joint financing and construction of port infrastructure via Mozambique, which, the leader claimed, would strengthen Belarus's trade ties with the African continent.
Lukashenko proposed that Belarus, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique jointly build a seaport, creating a transit hub and improving transport links with Africa.
