New chapter in Belarusian-American negotiations
Head of state Alexander Lukashenko met today with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump's team, led by the U.S. special envoy for Belarus John Kaul. According to the President's press service, a new round of Belarusian-American negotiations began today, December 12, with further talks planned for December 13. Issues discussed during the meeting included economic cooperation, regional security, and possible new initiatives in the energy sector. Representatives of the Republic of Belarus confirmed their readiness for continued dialogue and expressed expectations of positive outcomes.
Context
In previous years, Belarus and the United States held several meetings, but due to sanctions and disagreements, the number of official contacts decreased in 2023. This event is noted as a step towards restoring dialogue.
