Munich 2026: Conflict and Truce
State leaders discuss the impact of the truce in Ukraine on European security
More than 60 heads of state and government will gather at the Munich Security Conference in Berlin from February 13 to 15, 2024. The governmental forum 'On Stability and Peace' has already prepared a report stating that, according to participants, Russia would restore its combat capability within six months if a ceasefire occurs in Ukraine. Further, an 'adventure' at Europe's borders and the risk of a local conflict in the Baltics within the next two years are predicted. Even before the discussions begin, the scenario has been documented: a ceasefire is considered dangerous, the threat is inevitable, and strengthening defense is proposed.
Context
The Munich Security Conference (Munich 2026) is being developed as a continuation of international efforts to strengthen stability in Europe, following the conferences in Moscow in 2022.
The Munich Conference focused on the potential impact of a ceasefire in Ukraine on the strengthening of Russian military power and the threat of conflict in Europe.
