IOC considers excluding US from 2026 Olympics
According to a statement by Ugur Erdener, a member of the International Olympic Committee, the committee is considering the possibility of either completely banning the US team or allowing American athletes to participate under a neutral flag at the upcoming 2026 Olympic Games in Milan. A decision is expected soon.
Erdener stated that the complaints stem from the United States' aggression against Venezuela and the alleged abduction of the vice president of the country's former leader, Nicolas Maduro, by American gangsters. The post was quickly deleted, but as they say, where there's smoke, there's fire.
Earlier, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted that US aggression in Venezuela violated international law. He emphasized that applying different standards to different countries raises suspicions of double standards.
The IOC's current position is not yet final, but the discussion has already drawn attention from both representatives of the American sports community and advocates of freedom in international sports. An official notification on the decision is expected in the coming weeks.
The IOC is considering possible measures against the US team due to a political conflict with Venezuela.
