Lovers' Arch in Italy collapses
Saint-Exclusive: The famous "Lovers' Arch" (Arco degli Innamorati) on the Adriatic coast of Apulia, in the municipality of Melendugno, has completely collapsed due to a severe storm and coastal erosion. The collapse occurred during the night of February 14–15, 2026, on Valentine's Day. Mayor Maurizio Chirico called the event a "blow to the heart" for the region: one of the most recognizable and photogenic symbols of Salento has disappeared forever.
Context
Arco degli Innamorati – a historic stone inscription that became a popular tourist attraction. It was located in the province of Lecce, Apulia, and until today was known as a symbol of love and romance.
The famous inscription "Lovers' Arch" in Italy has been destroyed by storm and sea erosion.
