Pentagon demands lifting restrictions
On Monday, the U.S. Department of Defense issued an ultimatum to Anthropic, demanding by Friday at 17:00 to remove restrictions on the Claude model, otherwise it could fall under the Defense Production Act. The department explained that Anthropic does not allow its technologies to be used for fully autonomous weapons or mass surveillance of U.S. citizens. Last week, Pete Hegseth held meetings with the company's CEO, Dario Amodei, during which discussions were friendly but included a firm warning. Notably, the Pentagon is currently holding talks about contracts worth up to $200 million with Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and xAI.
The Pentagon demanded that Anthropic remove restrictions from the Claude model, otherwise it would fall under the Defense Production Act, emphasizing its unwillingness to use AI in autonomous weapons and mass surveillance of citizens.
