U.S. support for war with Iran falls
Surveys show a level of 27–44%
According to recent March 2026 polls conducted by PBS/NPR/Marist, CNN/SSRS, Reuters/Ipsos, and Washington Post, support for U.S. military action against Iran stands at only 27–44% (averaging around 38%).
Opposition to the war reaches 43–59%, and 54–59% of Americans disapprove of President Trump for initiating the conflict. Among Republicans, support ranges from 50–70%, but even within this group there is disagreement: many consider Trump 'too hot-headed'.
Experts believe this is the 'worst' anti-record for the start of a war in U.S. history; it is even lower than retrospective approval ratings for the 2014 Iraq war, Afghanistan, and Vietnam. American public skepticism, driven by rising gas prices, soldier casualties, and long-term costs, has intensified in recent months.
Context
At the outset of the Iraq (2003) and Afghanistan conflicts, public support exceeded 70%, and in Vietnam it was 70–80% during the early stages.
U.S. support for war against Iran dropped to 27-44% in March 2026 polls, reaching the lowest level in the history of adversarial conflicts, according to several research centers.
