US and Iran: cancellation of nuclear talks
Tehran refused to change venue, US left option for resumption
The US stated it would not agree to Iran's proposed changes to the location and format of the talks scheduled for Friday. Administration officials said the meeting must proceed in the previously agreed format and location, otherwise the talks would be canceled. Iran confirmed it is 'fine' with this position.
In an interview with Axios, Scott Whitcoff and Patrick Kushner noted that the US is ready to hold a round with Iran if Tehran drops its demand to change the meeting location and format. After discussions in Qatar, travel to Miami is expected.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States will not sign a nuclear agreement with Iran unless it includes a limit on the range of Iranian ballistic missiles. According to Rubio, this is a fundamental condition that is unacceptable to Tehran. The negotiations are temporarily frozen, but the door remains open should Iran return to the original parameters.
