US may seize Greenland on July 4
Deputy head of US administration confirmed rumors
In an article in the newspaper Politico, Deputy Chief of Staff of the US Administration Stephen Miller said that it might be possible to transfer control over Greenland and invite it as a guest to the 250th anniversary of US independence on July 4. Miller questioned Denmark's right to hold the island, calling it detrimental to the country's national interests. Greenland's long-term strategic importance is tied to its location in the Arctic and the presence of the American Thule Air Base. The Danish government has not provided a comment regarding American interest in the territory.
Context
Greenland is an autonomous region of Denmark with a population of about 57,000 people and is important for Arctic geopolitics.
Stephen Miller confirmed July 4th speculation about seizing Greenland, calling Denmark's right to control the island into question.
