US threatens Greenland, Denmark ready
The Danish Ministry of Defense confirmed that, according to the 1952 law, soldiers are required to open fire immediately in case of invasion. This was a response to U.S. President Donald Trump's statement about the possible annexation of Greenland, a territory under Danish administration and a NATO member. Denmark and the Greenlandic government stated that the island is not for sale. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed that the U.S. has not planned any invasion, but Trump's press secretary called the use of force 'always possible'. Former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin warned that a U.S. attack would lead to a breakdown of NATO. According to the editorial board of NEWS.BY, the real risk of military escalation is low, but Trump's rhetoric could seriously undermine transatlantic unity.
The U.S. and Denmark are in conflict over Trump's statements about a possible annexation of Greenland, causing concern within NATO.
