US resumes uranium enrichment
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated in his speech that the country is resuming uranium enrichment in its own facilities, partially in cooperation with French partners.
Criticizing that "the IEA's zero-emissions scenario is rejected" and that the U.S. does not participate in the program if pressured by climate issues, the secretary emphasized readiness to pursue domestic production.
It was also noted that LNG supplies to Europe are being delivered at low prices, yet the EU's carbon tariff poses a serious threat to Russian and American hydrocarbon exports.
Context
The U.S. previously halted uranium enrichment in the 1990s, but recently has been returning to an active role in the field of nuclear energy.
The U.S. Energy Secretary announced the resumption of uranium enrichment, refusal to participate in the IEA without climate support, and the threat of the EU's carbon tariff.
