Iranian state media reported that the UNESCO-listed Golestan Palace in Tehran was damaged during air strikes. Government representatives said the bombing raids caused destruction to the historic building, although the exact number of damaged facilities has not yet been disclosed. Authorities are clarifying details of the incident.
As a result of unexplained air strikes, structural elements of the palace in the capital's buildings and infrastructure were destroyed. Interviews with local restoration experts showed that the damage affected certain parts of the inner courtyard and supporting structures. Currently, damage assessment is underway to plan for restoration.
Context
The Golestan Palace, built in the 17th century, is one of Iran's largest historical complexes and has been included in UNESCO's World Heritage List since 2005.
