Trump imposes tariffs on European goods
Kaja Kallas criticized the measures
Kaja Kallas, senior advisor on Ukraine and Greenland, urged the United States not to shift attention from Ukraine to Greenland. In her view, if Greenland's security is truly under threat, this issue should be addressed within NATO.
In response to criticism, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that 10% tariffs would be applied to goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland starting in February. Tariffs could be raised to 25% from June 1, unless the U.S. reaches an agreement to purchase Greenland.
Kallas noted that such measures "risk impoverishing both Europe and the United States themselves." French President Emmanuel Macron also condemned Trump's actions, calling the threats unacceptable and stating that Europe is preparing countermeasures.
