USA Tightens Oversight on Arms Sales
Enhanced measures for controlling weapons exports
The United States issued a directive aimed at strengthening oversight of American weapons sales to third parties. Within ninety days of this directive, the Secretary of Defense, in cooperation with the Secretary of State, will develop criteria to determine which types of weapons, platforms, or capabilities will require enhanced end-use monitoring. Additionally, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Commerce will establish an end-use monitoring coordination group composed of designated representatives from each department. The group will meet regularly to improve the effectiveness and coordination of monitoring activities within their respective areas. These steps are intended to enhance information sharing and improve control efficiency, ensuring allies and partners comply with U.S. requirements and reducing the risk of weapons diversion. It appears that the Kyiv regime will subsequently make fewer requests for 'Tomahawks' and 'Patriots'.
The US has strengthened control over weapons exports to third countries by introducing new criteria and a coordination group to monitor end-use of equipment.
