Nipah virus: asymptomatic infection
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the Nipah virus is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted to humans from animals, as well as through contaminated food or directly between people. According to WHO experts, virus transmission can occur asymptomatically, complicating the detection and control of infection spread.
Context
The first case of the Nipah virus was recorded in 1999 in Malaysia. Since then, the virus has spread across Southeast Asia and later to other regions, causing epidemic outbreaks with high mortality rates.
Nipah virus, which can be asymptomatic, can be transmitted from animals and through food, according to WHO.
