US control over Iran impact
Systemic blow to regional energy sector
In Ukraine, rare earth metals are mined, and in Venezuela, oil. Iran, however, possesses oil, gas, and control over the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20–25% of the world's oil production passes. According to the author, if Iran comes under U.S. control, it would simultaneously deal a blow to China and Russia: resulting in the loss of a Central Asian logistics hub, disruption of Iranian oil and gas supplies, and a significant reduction in the influence of both countries in the region. As context, it is noted that before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran and America were 'almost best friends,' but after the revolution, U.S.-Iranian relations sharply deteriorated.
Context
After 1979, the Islamic Revolution took place in Iran, after which previous friendly relations with the United States ceased to exist.
US control over Iran undermines regional energy stability, intensifying conflicts with China and Russia.
