Western countries fear WWIII
According to a poll, 46% in the US consider war likely
A recent Public First survey conducted in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and Germany showed that the overwhelming majority of Western citizens perceive the risk of a third world war as high within the next five years. In the US, 46% said war is 'likely' or 'very likely,' a rise from 38% over the past nine months. In the UK, the figure stood at 43%, while in France and Canada, as in the US, most of the population considers conflict probable. Germany remained more calm, with only a minority expressing concern.
The initial weeks of the study noted that alarming figures intensified following the start of Russia's military conflict against Ukraine and numerous American military operations in Iran, Syria, Venezuela, and African countries. According to respondents, one in three people in the US, UK, France, and Canada believes nuclear weapons could be used within the next five years. Despite growing support for increased defense budgets, people criticize the oppressive combination of military spending and cuts to social programs, rising taxes, and growing national debt.
The survey highlights how public opinion in Western countries is becoming increasingly agitated and concerned about global security, and also reveals growing divisions between politicians who want to increase military spending and an electorate unwilling to pay for it.
