Accommodation in Belarus
Belarus offers a wide range of accommodation for every budget — from city hotels and serviced apartments to rural agrotourism estates and Soviet-era sanatoriums. Here is everything you need to know before booking.
Full-service establishments from budget to luxury. Minsk has international chains (Marriott, Crowne Plaza, Renaissance) as well as local brands. Outside the capital, rates are significantly lower.
Self-contained units with kitchen and private living space — the most popular option for stays over a few days. Aparthotels add hotel services (reception, cleaning). Widely available across all cities.
Shared dormitories or private rooms at budget prices. Concentrated mainly in Minsk. Ideal for solo travellers and short stays.
Small family-run properties, often with breakfast included. Guesthouses may not include meals. Common in smaller towns and near tourist attractions.
Standalone properties ideal for families or groups seeking independence and space. Available near lakes and forest areas, especially in the Minsk Region and Vitebsk Region.
A uniquely Belarusian concept. Over 2,500 registered rural estates offering rooms, home-cooked meals, and countryside activities. Government-incentivised and often the best value-for-money option outside Minsk.
A Soviet-era tradition still popular today. Health resorts combining accommodation, three meals a day, and medical/wellness treatments. Week-long packages. Popular for recovery and relaxation.
Low-cost roadside motels and inns along main highways. Camping sites near national parks and lakes. Cottages and forest lodges in protected natural areas.
Where to Stay — by City
The capital has the widest choice: international chain hotels in the centre, hundreds of short-term apartments, hostels in the Old Town area, and aparthotels near the train station.
Gateway city from Poland. Good hotel selection near the Brest Fortress and the pedestrian Sovetskaya Street. Popular with transit visitors.
One of Belarus's most picturesque cities. Boutique hotels and guesthouses in the old town. Popular for weekend trips from Vilnius.
Home of the Slavianski Bazaar international festival each July. Book well in advance during festival week. Good hotel and apartment options.
Belarus's second-largest city. Solid range of business hotels and apartments. Near the Gomel Palace and Park ensemble.
Industrial city with limited tourist infrastructure but adequate hotels and apartments for business travellers.
Nature & Wildlife Stays
Nature lovers will find Belarus a fascinating destination. With about 65% of its territory covered by forests, marshes, and protected areas, the country offers exceptional biodiversity and some of Europe's most pristine wilderness.
- Belavezhskaya Pushcha — UNESCO World Heritage site. Europe's oldest and largest primeval forest. Lodges and guesthouses inside the park, shared with free-roaming European bison, wolves, lynx, and elk.
- Braslav Lakes National Park — Popular for kayaking and lake holidays. Campgrounds, cottages, and agrotourism estates around the lakes.
- Pripyatsky National Park — Flood-plain forests and wetlands. Guided wildlife tours. Remote lodges available.
Practical Information
- Payment — Hotels accept UnionPay and cash (BYN). Visa/Mastercard issued by non-sanctioned banks may work. Always carry local cash as a backup.
- Hotels register you automatically — All licensed hotels and hostels register foreign guests with the authorities within 3 working days. You do not need to do anything.
- Private apartments — registration required — If you stay in a private apartment or with a host, the owner is legally required to register you with the local police (РУВД). Confirm this before booking. See the Residence Registration page for full details.
- Rental contract — Owners of private accommodation are required to issue a rental contract. Ask for it — it also serves as proof of address if needed.
- Check-in time — Standard check-in 14:00, check-out 12:00. Early check-in and late check-out usually available on request.
- Tourist tax — A small tourist fee (курортный сбор) may be charged at some hotels and sanatoriums, usually €0.50–1.50/night.
Your host must register you with the authorities. Read the full process, deadlines, and online registration steps.
