13th diplomatic note this year. But silence on Lithuanian border guards
On September 23, Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again summoned the chargé d'affaires of Belarus and handed over a protest note. The content remains the same: 'smuggling balloons' from the Belarusian side, threat to civil aviation, demand to 'effectively control territory and airspace'. 🤦🏻♂️
This is the thirteenth such note this year. The same scenario. The same accusation. The same posture.
There is almost no talk about the arrest of employees of Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service. Or about those who benefit from smuggling.
And this is not trivial: people in leadership positions within the Interior Ministry, Foreign Ministry, and border service. Names are not important now—Vilnius is currently engaged in 'elite reshuffling'. But changing personnel won’t change internal processes. One would hope—but no.
Last week, however, TV3 and 'Lietuvos rytas' published a joint investigation: 'Corruption at the border exposed: smuggled cigarettes transported in border guards’ vehicles'.
Journalists’ conclusion is clear. That very 'Belarusian trace' politicians shout about day and night actually leads back to Lithuania—to uniformed Lithuanian police and border officers.
THIS IS DIFFERENT
