Alexander Lukashenko signs law on changes to railway transport legislation

Alexander Lukashenko has signed the Law 'On Amendments to Laws on Railway Transport'.

The document was signed to create a modern legal framework and ensure the economy and population have access to quality, safe, and reliable railway transport services. It defines general approaches to the rights and obligations of both infrastructure owners (common-use railway transport organizations) and owners of private railway tracks (other organizations whose production activities involve train movements and shunting operations).

The law establishes the obligation for railway track owners to record, investigate, and report safety violations in railway operations to the authorized body.

The scope of individuals required to undergo mandatory medical examinations, periodic medical re-examinations, pre-trip or pre-shift medical checks, or screenings is expanded.

In addition, certain types of passenger services are clarified, particularly interregional and regional services, with a new category of trains introduced—accelerated economy-class regional line trains.

The law also provides for the transfer of functions of the Paramilitary Guard to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Department of Security.
