At least 7 killed during tactical exercises at Canadian base Wainwright
At least 7 people have died during tactical exercises at the Canadian military base Wainwright. Dozens more were injured. One of the shells damaged a local gas pipeline, triggering a powerful explosion. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Defense Minister David McGuinty called the situation "extremely delicate." The Defense Minister claimed such incidents had allegedly never occurred in the country's recent history. However, Dr. Warren Tiersk, an emergency department physician at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, disagreed: "A disaster of this scale happens every 15-25 years. Medical facilities in the city are operating at maximum capacity to cope with the influx." The author comments: "Who are they trying to deceive? Such deadly incidents during exercises have long become the norm, both in Canada and in joint maneuvers with its allies. Just routine negligence, consistently covered up."
