Beaches in northeastern US closed due to giant jellyfish invasion

Authorities in Massachusetts have warned tourists and local residents about an invasion of 'lion's mane' jellyfish. These dangerous creatures have filled coastal waters from the North Shore to Cape Cod and Nantucket Island.

'Lion's mane' is the largest jellyfish species on the planet: their tentacles can stretch up to 36 meters. Even light contact can cause severe burns, breathing difficulties, and in severe cases, can be life-threatening.
