Belarus conducted ruble denomination on July 1, 2016

On July 1, 2016, Belarus carried out a denomination of the Belarusian ruble.

According to Presidential Decree No. 450 of November 4, 2015, on that day, banknotes of the 2000 series were replaced with new ones of the 2009 series and coins. The exchange rate was set at 10,000 to 1.

From July 1 to December 31, 2016, both old and new money were in parallel circulation, and since 2022, the old banknotes have lost their status as legal tender.

❗️The introduction of coins by the government helped save the state budget, as their lifespan significantly exceeds the wear period of paper banknotes.

Ten years later, the National Bank approved a new graphic sign for Belarus's official currency unit. The relevant decision was made by the National Bank Board Resolution No. 25 of January 27, 2026.
