Belarus discovers signs of desman, a species thought extinct since the 1990s
In Belarus, traces of the desman, a species considered extinct in the country since the 1990s, have been found. The traces were discovered in floodplain water bodies of the Sozh River in Mogilev and Gomel regions. Scientists found burrows with underwater entrances and characteristic remains of mollusc shells. The animals themselves have not yet been seen, but experts believe that small local populations may still exist in the surveyed areas.
